Overview

Our eight-week programme in Commercial Banking will provide you the opportunity to showcase your potential and skills, as well as gain a good understanding and hands-on experience in the world of banking. You’ll be supported by open and values-led, high-performing team members, while our leaders will help you to be the best you can be, reflecting your interests and capabilities.

What will you do?

During the programme, you will have the opportunity to work within multiple business areas in Commercial Banking, such as Relationship Management, Credit Management and Specialised Credits, International Subsidiary Banking, Digital Banking and Strategic Change, Commercial Banking Originations, and Global Trade and Receivables Finance.

You’ll gain exposure to the ever-changing world of commercial banking, the bank’s products and services, and learn about how we leverage our international network to connect and service our commercial clients, meeting their needs across developed and emerging markets.

In every business rotation, you’ll receive introductions and training, participate in the shadowing of team members, as well as contribute to team meetings, and complete case studies. Your final week of the programme will see you deliver a final presentation.

There will also be planned and informal networking opportunities and social events, where you will be able to connect with executives and senior leaders of the bank. Given our commitment to social responsibility, an organised volunteer event will also be available for you to join.

Who does this suit?

HSBC is committed to diversity and inclusion throughout its workforce and wants all students to apply. We welcome applications from Black, Hispanic, and Female college sophomores. We are looking for motivated and dedicated people who are:

  • Relationship builders. Whether you are looking to build rapport with your mentor or help advise a business, you will need to be able to read people well and encourage mutual respect in sometimes high-pressured environments. This means building reliable relationships and ensuring people can count on you.
  • Curious learners. Showing a determination to learn about our Commercial Bank and the products we offer is essential in helping you build a successful career with us. It is all about becoming an expert and being able to advise clients knowledgably on our offerings.
  • Digital problem solvers. The role of a Commercial Banker is changing, becoming much more technology-focused and entrepreneurial. This means we need to be courageous and proactive when searching for better solutions and making use of the resources we have around us – such as other business areas and new technology.
  • Empathetic communicators. Our clients are at the heart of our Commercial Bank. You will do everything to support them wherever possible, forming lasting relationships that you can leverage to be able to meet customers’ individual objectives.

What can this lead to?

After successfully completing this programme, you will be considered to join our Commercial Banking Internship in the US, where you will not only gain exposure to international clients, but also delve deeper into the world of trade, client relations, and business development.

Welcoming diversity

If you have a different way of seeing the world, we are interested in hearing from you.

Learning together

At HSBC, we encourage collaboration, the pursuit of new skills through training and diverse thinking to help shape the future of the bank.
